Types of Therapy

Individual Therapy

Your son will receive much more than the traditional weekly hour-long session with his therapist. Due to the intentional small size of our programs, we are able to really get to know your child and establish a strong relationship of trust with him. We believe this connection is critical, and as such, we spend many hours each week participating in the recreation aspect of the program with your son.

Therapy sessions don't just happen in our offices, they happen while going for walks, taking drives up the beautiful canyons, going to lunch, fishing, sitting on top of the skate ramp, or on a ski lift. Again, we view this strong relationship with your teen as imperative to facilitating a lasting change.

Group Therapy

Surely you are aware of the powerful influence that peers can have in the life of a teenager—and in your son’s case, the likely powerful negative influence that his peers have had on him. Group therapy is an excellent tool for turning a peer group into a powerful positive influence for your adolescent.

Our goal is to empower students to have a voice and place where they can feel emotionally safe to be vulnerable with one another. In group therapy, each teen will have opportunities to share his stories and experiences with peers who can often relate to the things he has been going through and offer him acceptance and support. The primary therapists, as well as our substance abuse counselors, lead these groups.

Family Therapy

We believe that your son’s personal growth and recovery will be greatly enhanced through the strong family therapy component of our school. Families receive weekly therapy sessions over the phone, and in-person sessions whenever the parents come out for a visit. These family therapy sessions will focus on communication, parenting strategies, and goal setting. Many vulnerable conversations between parents and sons happen in these sessions.

Outside of the family therapy call, you will communicate with your son through an additional weekend call, as well as letters and email. Parents will have reading assignments and participate in family, couple, or group therapy at home as needed. We also encourage Al-Anon meetings, as they can be a helpful resource for families.
